The short version

The IQprop button for Chrome

A free add-on for the Chrome web browser. It saves you typing: paste a listing link into IQprop, press Submit, and the figures fill in.

What is IQprop for Chrome?

It is a small, free add-on for Chrome, the web browser. You paste a Property24 or Private Property link into IQprop and press Submit. It then fetches the asking price, levy, rates, bedrooms, bathrooms and garages. It also fetches the rent of similar homes in the same suburb. You don’t have to type any of it.

Chrome calls add-ons like this “extensions”. You add it once, and it stays there.

Do I need it?

No. Everything in IQprop works without it. You can always type the figures in yourself — it takes about a minute. The add-on just does the typing for you.

What does it cost?

Nothing. It is free on every plan, including the free plan.

How do I add it?
  1. On IQprop, click “Add IQprop to Chrome”. The Chrome Web Store opens in a new tab.
  2. Click the blue “Add to Chrome” button.
  3. Chrome asks if you are sure. Click “Add extension”.
  4. Go back to your IQprop tab and refresh the page (press F5, or click the round arrow at the top left).

You will now see “✓ IQprop for Chrome is on” under the link box. That’s it.

How do I use it?
  1. Find a property on Property24 or Private Property.
  2. Copy the web address at the top of the page (click it, then press Ctrl+C).
  3. On IQprop, go to Analyse a deal or the Offer calculator, paste the link in the box (Ctrl+V) and press Submit.

A tab opens for a few seconds and closes by itself. The figures are then filled in. Check them against the listing before you rely on them.

Is it safe? What can it see?

It only opens Property24 and Private Property listings, and only when you press Submit in IQprop (or click its icon on a listing). It cannot read your email, your banking, your passwords or any other website.

The figures it reads go straight into the IQprop page on your screen. They are not sent to IQprop’s servers. Nothing is saved unless you choose to save the analysis.

Google checks every add-on before it is allowed into the Chrome Web Store.

Chrome showed a message about what it can “read and change”. Should I worry?

No. Chrome shows that message for every add-on, listing the websites it may open. For IQprop that is only property24.com and privateproperty.co.za — it needs them to read the listing you asked for. It does not change anything on those sites.

Why can’t IQprop just read the link without an add-on?

Property24 and Private Property do not allow other companies’ computers to copy their listings, and IQprop respects that. So IQprop’s own computers never visit those sites.

The add-on reads the listing in your own browser, on your request — exactly as if you had opened it and read it yourself.

A tab opened and closed by itself. Is that normal?

Yes. That is the add-on opening the listing to read it. It closes the tab when it is done, usually within a few seconds.

It says “✓ Done”, but some figures are empty.

Some listings don’t show the levy or the rates. Type in what is missing — ask the agent if the listing doesn’t say.

Always check the figures. Agents write the listings, and mistakes happen.

It can’t read the listing. What now?
  1. Open the listing and check it is still for sale.
  2. Refresh the IQprop page and press Submit again.
  3. Still stuck? Type the figures in yourself — everything else works the same.

If Property24 or Private Property change their website, figures may come back empty until we update IQprop. It leaves a figure empty rather than guess. Tell us at support@iqprop.co.za and we will fix it.

I can’t see the IQprop icon at the top of Chrome.

You don’t need it — pasting the link into IQprop is enough. If you would like the icon: click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, find IQprop, and click the pin next to it.

How do I remove it?

Right-click the IQprop icon at the top right of Chrome and choose “Remove from Chrome”. Or type chrome://extensions in the address bar and click Remove under IQprop. Nothing else in IQprop changes.

Phones, tablets and other browsers

Does it work on my phone or tablet?

Phones and tablets don’t allow add-ons like this, so the figures are not filled in for you. On your phone:

  1. In the Property24 or Private Property app, tap Share and then Copy link.
  2. Paste the link into IQprop and press Submit. IQprop finds the rentals nearby.
  3. Type in the price, levy and rates from the listing.

On an Android phone it is quicker: add IQprop to your home screen once, and you can share listings straight to it.

Can I share a listing straight to IQprop from my phone?

On an Android phone, yes. Set it up once:

  1. Open IQprop in Chrome on your phone.
  2. Tap Add IQprop to your home screen. Or tap the menu (⋮) and then Add to Home screen.

After that, in the Property24 or Private Property app, tap Share on a listing and choose IQprop. It opens with the listing ready. Type in the price, levy and rates, and you are done.

On an iPhone, Apple does not allow this yet. Copy the link and paste it into IQprop instead. You can still put IQprop on your home screen: in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.

Does it work in Edge, Safari or Firefox?

Microsoft Edge: yes. When the Chrome Web Store opens, Edge may ask you to “Allow extensions from other stores”. Click Allow, then “Add to Chrome”.

Firefox: yes. IQprop offers you the Firefox version when you open it in Firefox.

Safari: no. Use the IQprop bookmark button instead — it works in any browser on a computer, with nothing to install.

What is the IQprop bookmark button?

A bookmark you drag to the top of your browser once. When you are looking at a listing, click it, and IQprop opens with the figures filled in. Click it again on the homes-to-rent page and the area rent comes in too.

About the figures

Where does the “area rent” come from?

From homes to rent in the same suburb, on the same website, with the same number of bedrooms and of the same type (house, townhouse or flat). If there are fewer than three, IQprop widens the search and tells you it did.

It is a starting point. Check it with a local rental agent before you rely on it.

Is IQprop part of Property24 or Private Property?

No. IQprop is not affiliated with Property24 or Private Property.
